How to SPEED UP your Notebook

Ever wondered why your notebook is always running below its capacity and speed ? Are you experiencing the following ?

1) It takes a lot of time for your notebook to boot ?

2) It takes a lot more time for that final beautiful Desktop of yours to appear after you login?

3) It takes a sinister amount of time for your Microsoft outlook to start fully functional

4) Is Outlook doing its holy ritual every day before it shows up yesterdays mail @ YOUR EXPENSE ?

5) Frustrated at the amount of time , if you multiply these minutes * number of times you do these activities every day

6) The "All programs " on start menu STARTS thinking and teases you whether to show you the installed application list or not?

7) Uncomfortable feeling unable to manage this little piece of computing?

If you have answered yes to any of these questions , YOU have to come to the right site @ the right time BECAUSE I am going to show not only how to speed up your notebooks but also give you valuable freebies :)

We can comfort ourselves that Microsoft keeps on creating new operating systems which are big and bulkier ? Hey I remember when I first had windows 95 , Microsoft outlook express with all its emails used to start as if it has been mimimized and my friends were , can you do that again ? Hmmm... good speed ! Inspite of all these new advances in Technology , our demands on our notebooks have gone up much steeper than what Technology could deliver.

Inspite of all these .... Let's get started !

My suggestions :

1) Check the processes taking the highest percentage of processor load by pressing ALT+CNT+DEL
2)In this case it were Outlook and IE explorer
3) Use Disk defragmentor – it speeds up the response if the hard disks are usually full with less than 15% available disk storage
4)Use the freeware CCleaner.exe http://www.ccleaner.com/ - It freed out close to 1 GB of unnecessary clutter and useless files from the system. Moreover its a freeware = FREE , you dont need to run tons of trial software only to buy one of those software to make use of the software.
5) Use CCleaner to analyze the registry file – make a back up – and proceed with its recommendations – click by click
6)Use CCleaner to uninstall unnecessary applications from the system .There is a good section which indicates startup list --- DELETE ALL UNNECESSARY STARTUP programs that you dont require. They are a lot of these stuff wasting YOUR TIME
7)Add RAM to the extent supported by the Notebook – It cost me 20$ for 2GB DDR2 667Mhz Ram – remember buying 512 MB DDR2 555 MHz RAM for about 100$ in 2005 !! RAM is very cheap now adays
8)For outlook check the size of the folders – for Inbox , archive , C:\Documents and Settings\User Name \Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook….. If your archive.pst is anywhere close a GB you have found one of the culprits !!! holy cow…. And its just an archive for older emails ,copy the archive.pst file to E drive under old email folders— kill the outlook.exe for accessing the archive.pst file. Then copy the archive.pst file and re-open Outlook --- it will ask to locate or re-create the archive file – create a new archive file 256KB!!! Most interesting even after moving the old archive file , all the old emails since 2007 are still accessible with the new archive 256KB --- the emails are stored in inbox files and have nothing to do with archive unless something is lost!!
9)The initial response of the Outlook used to 4min 40 seconds from opening to possibly making use of Outlook ---- NOW it’s a flat 10 seconds !!! or even less …. 4 min 40 was with 2GB Ram !!! so make sure you are using Commonsense at all times and don’t waste your invaluable time with slow pc…..
10)Next use Disk defragmentor to keep your hard disks in good shape ... You can use the disk defragmentor in windows XP but beyond a certain limit , it cannot help much. In cases where your C drive is fragmented heavily , I suggest using a trial version of Perfect disk 10 @ http://www.perfectdisk.com/ to check if it suits your need. Check it , it has wonderful results for me. It defragments files and even system and boot files ... very useful

More updates coming soon .......

Hope this information helps :)

To a happier time with your Notebook

Cheers,

Chaks
